To work with and express “black,” I found inspiration in a quote from composer Robert Schumann:

“To send light into the darkness of men’s hearts—
such is the duty of the artist.”

To create the image, I arranged my sequined black scarf on my husband’s black wool coat, snapped a photo, cropped, then added Schumann’s words.
