Day 42 prompt: the letter L

third grade

eight years old

learning to write

like grown-ups 

Cursive!

some letters are hard

usually my W doesn’t

slant in all the right ways

and my G never comes out

as pretty as my mom’s

some letters make no sense 

if I had made this up,

Q would just be an O

turned upside down

and Z would have

zig-zag corners

they did get one letter right

my pencil glides

from center line

to top

turns back

then swoops down low

and turns again

making a smooth run

just below the bottom line

ta da!
