receiving wine and wafer
I recall my Savior

but other foods and drinks
evoke different human links

milk from a jug, sardines from a can
bring back my dad, the farming man

Toffee Fay and cambric tea
remind of my mom and me

anise or butterscotch in my mouth
call up my grandma from the south

and a bowl of unbaked cookie dough
makes me think of Christine Crowe
