The Cat’s Lament

Cats at the window

Today’s poem was a breakfast table collaboration with my daughters, ages 8 and 10, as we watched our cats twitch and stare out the window. I see potential for more stanzas. Feel free to write one!

That squirrel is cute
That bird looks nice
That grass is deep
There could be mice

I wish they’d let MEOWT!

I’d drink that puddle
I’d climb that tree
I’d chase that plastic
If I were free

I wish they’d let MEOWT!
