What material would you use to make a book without paper? My first two thoughts were fabric and plastic bags. I had ideas for each, individually, but wanted to push them together. The result is something odd, but useful:
A tiny book for saving teeth
- Before: I was saving my kids’ teeth in sandwich bags and the little plastic treasure chests they bring home from the school nurse.
- In Progress: I stitched together a handful of sturdy jewelry bags, enclosed in a piece of colorful upholstery fabric, and labeled a bag for each child. In went the teeth!
- After: All those teeth (and their stories) are tucked away in this title little “book” that will live in my dresser drawer.
Do all moms save their children’s teeth?
In our household, the kids long ago began training the Tooth Fairy to leave not just cash or coins, but the teeth as well. They communicated this need by way of hand-written notes tucked under the pillow with each tooth. They all know I’m hoarding their teeth in the top drawer of my dresser. Sometimes they even ask to see them.
Now the stash is a little more orderly.
Still gross, perhaps. But orderly.
