the peony
just past her prime
wears her peplum
pinched and puckered

 crepe-y petals
pulling inward
protect her precious
center plumes

this pretty posy
kept her posture
long after peers’
perfume had past

but presently
her pink is paling
prepared for earth
in peace to pass
