Can you imagine
the congressional brawl
if a senator called
for a flag overhaul?
With opinions so varied
and agreements so few
any vote would downgrade
our red, white, and blue.
The crisply lined stripes
so defined in the sky
would have to give way
to a blended tie-dye.
But not with bold hues
like today’s flag that flies.
Only beige, buff, and gray
could evoke compromise.
And forget any symbols.
Surely stars are unfair.
Groups will fight for a side
like they argue healthcare.
So let’s not make a motion
for a flag redesign.
Don’t go changing Old Glory.
She suits us just fine.
