I’m not a chess player, but chess does run in my blood. My father loved the game and was a skilled player. All three of my children enjoy chess, and play with some success.
Maybe chess skips a generation.
At any rate, I appreciate chess and am familiar enough with the board and pieces that tonight I was able to create my own paper version. To reflect my theme of “words,” I planned to label each piece with its name: King, Queen, Rook, Pawn …
But while assembling the game, I realized the pieces need no identification. So I searched for quotes about chess and found one that speaks not just to chess, but to creativity as well.
“Daring ideas are like chessman moved forward.
They may be beaten, but they may start a winning game.”
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
