“Create something based on the shapes found in a plant in your immediate vicinity.”
I don’t keep house plants. To do so would be cruel, as I am unable to sustain their lives. (Thank goodness I seem to do okay with children and pets. Not-so-much with plants.) So for today’s prompt, I had to look to the vicinity beyond my walls and windows. I was uninspired, and yet so moved, by what I see, here in the long Midwestern winter …

Late Winter Prairie
bare branches
scratch
the white landscape
sharp
stark
disturbing
like fingers
on chalk
bored
I am weary
exhausted
by contrast
longing for
chromatic
prisms
please
for the love
of all that is
holy
and hued
soften
these jagged trees
with buds
and leaves
come
oh come
subtle spring
